St Anthony's Catholic P.S

Stage 1 - Classrooms & Fitout

The focus for the first stage was to continue the undercover structures, creating teaching and play space for both students during school hours and the school community for religious and community celebrations, festive and cultural occasions.

Five transportable classrooms with purpose built wet area and IT “pods” were designed to enclose the north eastern side of the school.

Within the existing heritage buildings, renovation of the existing reception and relocation of existing classrooms formed an iconic staff centre featuring larger Reception areas, Offices, Meeting Room and dedicated Staff Room.

Completing the renovation, the existing Library was
totally renovated to create sufficient work areas, research areas and gathering spaces for both students and staff.

Stage 2 - Gymnasium

Funded through the B.E.R, the new gymnasium is set upon the schools existing outdoor courts, the prominent location of the building gives the school a contemporary look and compliments the work
which took place in Stage 1 works to the north east of the school grounds.

The hall is designed for a full sized basketball court and can cater multiple events and community groups. The Multipurpose hall is equipped with kitchen and toilet facilities and makes use of existing car parking for afterhours community use.

Gymnasium

Set in the North West corner of the school ground, the new Multipurpose hall incorporates existing external courts; new half sized basketball courts and upgraded cricket nets, forming the school's new sporting precinct.

The building houses facilities for community sporting groups such as toilets for after hours use, storage space and kitchen/ catering facilities. A new covered walkway with plantings to the boundary edge links the main school buildings and the new Multipurpose hall whilst also creating a formal entry and waiting area.

Administration Building

The existing building, one of the first buildings located on the school site, was renovated to house the new administration, reception and staff services.

The design of the the entry took into consideration the loaction and form of future stages to the south. The new entry also provides pram and disabled access to the schools reception from Queen Street, and enhances the school frontage with the removal of dated covers and landscaping.

The relocation of the administration space provided  additional staff offices, work areas, meeting rooms and waiting areas.

Library & Classrooms

The library design is based on the Montessori Method of teaching, with an emphasis on the sensory experience of the space. Bright
colours and multiple materials along with changes in floor and ceiling level are used to define different teaching spaces within the library environment.

The existing heritage listed portion of the new building juxtaposed the new contemporary portion of the library, creating an intimate space for quiet
reflection and research and gives the building familiarity to the occupants.

The overall design of the new library building is planned with future expansion in mind. Classrooms
located on the first floor address current demands; however internal wall layouts can be reconfigured to fit future needs.
