Flight Training Queensland

Master Planning for Flight Training Queensland involved analyses of the existing infrastructure present on the site as well as future construction which would both satisfy requirements by the client and State Government authorities.

The facility will boast living facilities for 211 students with large cafeterias, recreation facilities and outdoor sporting facilities.

The facility is divided by function with the living, administration and teaching spaces forming the three key elements to the design.

Existing runways, established flight paths and surrounding residential developments were taken into consideration with the overall location of the facility.

Sacred Heart College M.S

Edge Architects were engaged to provide Master Planning services involving the evaluation and review of flexible learning spaces, relationships and sharing of facilities with other Marist schools, outdoor covered spaces and economical design using the existing building stock.

The school houses 650 male students from years 6 through 9 and has a mix of solid and transportable buildings spread around the original Chapel and Brothers Residence.

Stage 1 of the Master Plan saw partial funding obtained through the B.E.R process, allowing for the construction of a new Multipurpose space, new
Library and subject specific Science building.

Saint Ignatius' College S.S.

Saint Ignatius’ College Senior School houses approximately 850 students in Athelstone on an undulating site with large sporting ovals to the western and southern ends of the school.

The Master Plan addressed the needs of the school by improving visual connection to the surrounding ovals and environment through the removal of existing transportables. The requirement for new subject specific teaching spaces, Performing Arts Centre and redesigned vehicle and pedestrian access in and around the school were key Master Plan requirements.

The recommendations made in the Master Plan will allow greater interaction between the buildings and the surrounding space. More emphasis is placed on space between existing and new buildings with the creation of usable space such as an outdoor amphitheatre student seating and covered pedestrian walkways.

St Michael's College S.S

With the intention for the school to become co-educational, Edge Architects were engaged to provide a Master Plan for St Michael’s College
to suite the enrolment realignment and provide cost effective solutions, by utilising and connecting as much of the existing building stock as possible.

The brief required a defined Middle School with additional learning spaces together with new Gymnasium and Administration expansion, existing
Resource Centre and the proposed new building housing the Communal Space, ICT and Music. New
courtyards and parking were created whilst enhancing views to the grounds all without impacting on valuable oval space.

The cost effective nature of the proposed Master Plan has seen a majority of the suggested works take place within the past 5 years. With Stage 2 works includes the new double court Gymnasium and addition teaching space recently completed.

Tenison Woods College

In 2006 due to increasing student numbers Tenison Woods College and Edge Architects undertook a review of the existing Master Plan. The result
was a further staged development of school facilities commencing with a New Flexible Learning Centre incorporating contemporary learning,
I.T and study and student spaces.

The original master plan was completed following the amalgamation of Tenison Woods College with the St Pauls Primary School on the existing
high school campus. Both the 1999 and 2006 projects were managed by Pino Dichiera (1999 project in previous employment) and involved
among other things the refurbishment of existing heritage listed buildings, a complete rework of vehicular and pedestrian traffic together with new
data networking.

The second stage of the project was completed with B.E.R funding. This entailed a cost effective solution by retaining the existing Gymnasium
and extending to the north, forming a double sized gymnasium capable
